A stuck vehicle needs a recovery plan that accounts for its position, the ground, and the available access. Describe the terrain, distance from an accessible road, and any damage when you call.
Describe where and how the vehicle is stuck
Tell us whether the vehicle is in mud, snow, sand, or a ditch. Include the approximate distance from a usable road, slope, surface conditions, and any damage. A photo can be helpful if dispatch asks for one and you can take it safely.
Recovery depends on safe access
Mention narrow approaches, soft ground, gates, trees, or other obstacles. Dispatch reviews the vehicle position, equipment needs, and access before confirming a recovery plan. Avoid repeated attempts to drive out if they could worsen the position or damage the vehicle.
Recovery first, then roadside help or towing
Once the vehicle is recovered, it may need a tow or further inspection. Discuss whether it can roll, steer, and run, and provide a destination if needed. If further transport is needed, share your preferred destination when you call.
LOCAL PICKUP GUIDANCE
Pickup guidance across our service areas.
For Seattle, Shoreline, Edmonds, or Lynnwood recovery, describe the vehicle position and the usable road or driveway leading to it. A location pin alone does not show a slope, soft ground, gate, or obstruction. Tell dispatch what can be reached safely before equipment is arranged.
COMMON QUESTIONS

Call dispatch with your exact location and vehicle details to confirm the next step.
206-289-0379Can you help with a vehicle in a roadside ditch?
Call with the precise location, vehicle position, access, and any damage. Dispatch will assess whether suitable recovery equipment is available and discuss the next step.
Is a winch-out the same as a tow?
A winch-out recovers a stuck vehicle to an accessible position. Towing moves it to another destination. Your situation may require one or both, which affects the estimate.
What should I do while waiting for recovery?
Stay clear of moving traffic and the recovery area. Follow dispatcher and emergency-responder instructions. If anyone is injured or in immediate danger, call 911.
